Many poor migrants without documentation, rights, or money, find themselves in these informal settlements with unhygienic and overcrowded living conditions: little sanitation or waste management, clean water, electricity and access to health care.
Sometimes organisations such as Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) help residents by providing primary health care, referrals to the public sector clinics, and providing materials and staffing for cleaning the buildings, as government assistance is often lacking.
